Prosthodontics Online - Prosthodontic literature on the internet.

Traditionally publishing of scientific research depends on paper. Journals are stored in libraries and researchers looking for special articles had to rely on printed directories to find appropriate publications and on whether or not the relevant literature is available in local libraries. In the eighties literature retrieval was simplified by Medline on Silverplatter which allows searching by article or author and in a mesh or - if available - in an abstract of an article.

The Internet offers new options and advantages that will affect publishing as well as literature retrieval. Electronic publishing is quicker and cheaper than traditional printing. Articles published on the Internet enable full text retrieval. Access to literature is possible from every PC with access to the Internet. Interesting articles can be downloaded and printed.

It is therefore not surprising that more and more newspapers and scientific journals are beginning to publish electronically. This poster introduces an experimental World-Wide-Web-Server. It is the aim of this server to publish prosthodontic research and to offer text retrieval in prosthodontic literature.
